I posted this a few days ago and the thread disappeared. So I'll try again.
Just a shot in the dark here, but I’m looking for an old car of mine. It’s a 1972 Steel Cities Gray “T” top. It was registered in Ohio in Sep 2016. It’s VIN is: 1Z37K2S515799. I was feeling a little nostalgic the other day and thought that I would try and find it. I bought the car in North Kansas City in 1974 and sold it in Enterprise, AL in 1977. I was in Army Flight School at Ft. Rucker at the time. I drove by a used car lot and saw a beautiful blue 1976 L82 Corvette for sale. At the time I couldn’t resist. I loved the 1976, but always regretted losing my 1972, my first of 6 Corvettes.
Anyway, if anybody from Ohio knows this car I would love to be put in touch the present owner. Remember, it’s the winter so put the top down and the heater on high!
I can't believe it, I might be on to a lead on my old car. I Googled the VIN and got a hit. I found out that the car was sold at “Classic Lexus” in Willoughby Hills, OH a couple of months ago. However, their listing was for a 1972 with a White exterior and a red interior. The VIN matched perfectly 1Z37K2S5155799. I have contacted Classic Lexus but have not got a lot of information from them. Is anyone familiar with that area? How about any Corvette Clubs in that area?
I wish you well with your search. That's one thing about today that's harder than 20 years ago. With privacy laws the way they are it is hard to get records. In fact some states don't even keep them that long. I LOVE Steel City Gray.
I can't believe it, I actually found my first Corvette. I had almost given up hope, so I decided to do what I should have done in the first place, I Googled the VIN! I came up with a 3 month old advertisement for a 1972 with a matching VIN from a Lexus dealership in Ohio. I contacted them and they were nice enough to take the time and let the buyer know my contact information. He contacted me and sent me a couple of photos. Boy, the car has changed since I owned it. I didn’t do this to try and buy the car back. It was more for nostalgic reasons. It’s a great feeling that the car is still out there on the road turning heads.
Nice looking car, both in original and new color. I prefer original colors, but my 71 was painted black before I bought it. Someday, I may change it back to Brands Hatch green.

My 71 coupe was a faded, ugly red when I bought it. It`s now back to it`s original Steel Cities Gray.
