I've recently purchased ignition shielding for my 76. Bought it from a forum member. I have the AIM manual. It's not clear enough for me to see how it installs on the engine block. I was hoping somebody has a clear picture on how to bolt it up. It's the cover for the distributor along with brackets.

Hi Freddy,
Are you asking about the 2 supports for the distributor shield?
Typically the brackets mount on the last bolt on each side of the intake manifold.

Here are the brackets on my 71. They'll be similar on you 76.



On your engine the bracket may be on the last bolt rather than the second to the last as shown here.

not trying to hijack this thread, but Alan - the diagram you posted here - is that from a vendor website or some other document ? i love the clarity. The AIM is often cited as the authoritative document to follow but my copy is very hard for me to read. i always felt there had to be better visual diagrams out there.

Hi v7,
The AIM is good for many, many things, but it doesn't show EVERYTHING, so I'm always looking for more information and explanation.
That particular drawing is from the Paragon Reproduction catalogue.
I refer to the PRINT copies of the Paragon, ZIP, Corvette Central, and Keen catalogues ALL the time.
They often have very good 'exploded' drawings showing how things went together.

Do you have any photos of the chrome brackets also ? They would be 3365 and 3364 on the exploded view you provided.

Hi Freddy,
Here's the complete radio shielding and heat shielding from the right side and both vertical shields.
These vertical shields are reproductions and have less tooling marks and better plating than the originals.
Remember all this is from a 71.

If it is Alan, it's not the correct A/C comp'r. My '76 came with the A6 axial comp'r. That one in the pic is an R4? Shielding looks correct though.

Alan, I just looked at mine and they do look like the pics in post #14. I have headers now so I can no longer use the lower heat shield pieces.

If your not using the lower heat shields. Will the chrome brackets stay in place ? Or, are they attached to the block somehow ?

Hi Freddy,
I'm not sure what part you're referring to as the 'chrome brackets'.
With headers on the engine there's no way to mount the 2 horizontal shields (3371 & 3368) or their small supports.
I don't think you can mount the spark plug heat shields (3383 & 6503k) either.
You can likely still be able mount the spark plug wire heat shields (14769 &14770)
You'll still be able to mount and secure the left side vertical shield (3365), but there will be no lower support for the right side vertical shield (3364).
