Contact the NCRS and see if you can obtain a Shipping Data Report for your car. https://www.ncrs.org/services/histor...nt-service.php
If possible, go back to the second owner and see if he/she has any factory documentation for the car. Is there a chance the second owner knew the first owner?

Have you tried a title search to determine where/when the car was first titled?

Without a stroke of luck in tracking down prior owners (who have to be still alive and residing, or a living family member, at last known address), it is very tough to research old records, especially prior to the 80s. Most commercial VIN research services do not have records prior to the electronic era (at most going back to the 80s).
The C3 registry (just Google your VIN) might show a listing from a prior sale and the ebay or other user ID of the seller, but not more detailed prior owner information. You can also try searching the NCRS forums archive with the last 5 digits of your VIN but will only come up with something if prior owner(s) was an enthusiast.
For example, I can trace my 1969 ownership history back to 1979 and even know the state and license plate number from prior to 1979 (which is likely the original owner), but my written inquiries to other state DMV offices, including the appropriate forms and fees requesting a microfilm records research, have come back with zero.
Good luck, keep searching the net, you never know.
