I had an under dash aftermarket 8 track player on my 66 Cyclone. Every morning on the way to school, me and my buddies would rock out with the likes of Iron Butterfly, Steppenwolf, Three Dog Night, CCR, and occasionally we would listen to Cheech and Chong. 8 track was awful, but at the time it was state of the art.

I still have both the car (s) and home units - both work. I never had issues with the 8 tracks.
Except on a good hole shot with my 68 Firebird the tape would come out and hit the back window.
