Great work so far, I love these kinds of threads. New garage buddy looks like a keeper, he'll be fetchin wrenches in no time. Keep up the good work.

Update with photos. Body came off the frame last weekend. Had to grind a bit on the bolts but easier than I thought it would be. Dolly courtesy of gwgwgw. Thanks Glenn!
Just barely enough room to roll out the frame. I should have started the other way around so I wouldn't have had to remove the gas tank.

I hope by now you've found all the animal nests... My C3 sat for 12 years and the interior and engine bay looked very similar when I got it. I had 2 dead mice and a dead squirrel skeleton with 1/2 an acorn where it's belly used to be!
-Months after having the interior professionally cleaned ($250) I found yet another animal nest above the passenger's side t-top headliner!! (WTF?!!)
For the smell, I've heard lots of people recommend the "Dakota Odor Bomb" odor eliminator product apparently it works, but puts off a plasticy chemical smell itself, that slowly dissipates after 2-3 weeks of use.

I did my coupe body off like you , but had it pointed the other way so I could get the chassis out when it was hanging in the air , I remember thinking "what the hell have I done " !!!!!! sorry to hear about Nutmeg .I lost my dog years ago and I still miss him.
And sorry about your pooch. It is tough to lose a good dog. I think if we are lucky if they get to live the full 10-15 years with us. And if you are a life long dog/cat owner I think you should expect to have 3-5 in your adult lifetime (that is one at a time). Right now Pacha, the new pup, is dog three. She is learning fast what to expect being a garage hound.

Wow. A year and a half between updates. This is pretty pathetic. Sorry folks. I do have a list of excuses.....The dog ate my keyboard, The sun was in my eyes, I built a new house. Anyway, I am in the new place now but the side effect is that the boxes of vette parts got completely shuffled and I am still sorting through old rusty parts. It is a complete mess, but only makes the puzzle more challenging. I am going attach some photos to bring the post up to speed. I hope everyone is healthy these days and enjoying their family and car time.

I agree with the guys , nice looking place you have now , certainly worth putting the project on hold for that . Also that dog has grown !
So how did it tow? , I would have jumped on with a spanner to steer it if I was a bit closer to ya !
EDIT: just noticed your oil tank on your hoist , those white plastic ones don't like the UV rays , I lost mine with a big mess because of the sun shining on it in the afternoons , I wrapped my new one in some silver insulation .

And thanks for the note on the lift tank. I never thought that might happen. It is over 10 years old and I know how plastic ages. I can see what a mess it could make. Ugh.

Yesterday I decided to spark this engine up while it sits on the chassis before I put the body on. I know it is probably a stupid idea, but the engine is kind of a Frankenstein of parts and is my first american muscle build, so the odds of something going really wrong are high. If I do need to go back into it, I don't want to pull it out from the body.
I have to rig up something to mount a radiator and do something with the exhaust. I am sure I will have other questions. Anyone else done this in the past?
Photo of starting point today: Maybe I can get it running in a few weeks...

Kinda like this? Not a stupid idea at all and worth the extra effort. Everything on my rebuild was new and I had the same fears, although mostly to do with the new electronics and instrumentation.

I was going to do something much more temporary, but after seeing this, I think it is the way to go. It probably adds a week or two to the "fire-it-up" project because now I have to do some homework now to pick the end-game radiator and fan setup. In my little world it was a race to see if I could get it running before the restaurants and bars start opening up. Ha.

Pre oil step - check. Oil on floor - check. Oil shooting out of galley hole covered with blue tape - check.
Radiator and fans on order. Next some exhaust puzzles need to be solved.
