Thanks for the info. It is disappointing though...I thought it was at least a corvette engine, not a truck engine. The casting number is 3932386. Not sure what that tells you.
The head numbers are 3927186 which I found to be L46 heads. I am not sure if I want to run the octane needed for these. Especially if I want to make a road trip car. I wonder if they are worth anything to anyone...

You could use this block as the basis for a pretty nice build. Or, you could sell it to a gearhead and go in another direction.
The 186 heads all had 64cc combustion chambers if I'm not mistaken, but you won't know until you pull them off if they have the 1.94 intake valves or the bigger 2.02's. I'm guessing with a flat top piston you could get the compression ratio down to a livable level. Many might say the newer head technology is far better and to ditch those rather than stick any money into them, though. Again, there is a market out there for the stuff if you don't want it.

I don't know if I'd get too disappointed yet- being out of a truck, there's a good possibility it is a 4-bolt main block. The original engine is gone, and unless you want to get a date matching correct block for it, why fret?

I made some progress today. Every day in the garage is a good day.
Rich, the exhaust valves look to be 2" but I think I am going to try and sell these heads if I can find an easy way to pass them on to an interested party. Since it's not original I am probably going to go with a top end kit. I just need to settle on the right one for me. Not too lumpy idle and good low end torque, but breathes well when needed. That's not too much to ask is it?
I had fun with the disassembly and have a few pics for those interested. But the best news is.......
It is a 4 bolt main. Yahoo.

Based on the British sports cars in the background, and my personal experience, you'll probably really appreciate something that will rev a bit. Speaking for myself, going from a moderately built A or B series engine to a chev that runs out of breath around 5,000 rpm was a bit sad... What is considered a pretty big cam in a sbc to most people still provides more bottom end torque than a British 4, and hangs on in the top end like it should!

Its been sitting outside airing out and not getting any less smelly. I decided to go back to mouse hunting again. Pesky little buggers.
Looks like a new wiring harness is in the cards. Any suggestions on who makes the best? What if they chewed through the fiber optic stuff? I don't know too much about it.

You can get new wiring harnesses with the fiber optic lines included.
Mine is made by 'Letric Limited purchased through Willcox. Haven't installed it yet (years of work to go still) so I can't say how good the product actually is...

I bought Lectric Limited, watched prices for quite a while and got them all at one time on sale. I had no issues with installation, they are even pre-formed to an extent but you will have to do some pursuading mainly in the fusebox area and up around the tach and speedo.

Thanks guys for the tip on Lectric Limited. It looks like the way to go.
I didn't expect much from this 46 year old wire, but I carefully removed the old harness. The only wires that needed to be cut were the ones to the crazy CompuCruise thingy. And they went everywhere. The PO had no idea what a grommet was.
Anyway it is out. I can continue cleaning. Photos for anyone interested...
At least its not Lucas!!!
Looks like some of my kin-folk have been here before. Insulation? What was going on??
You think a signal could ever make it thru this?
It was so hot today the dog went flat.

Looks like a great project. Love the pictures. Keep em coming.
I am doing the same thing to a 69. I didn't start out wanting to
but as I was cleaning I kept going and took the body off.
Just got the frame back from sand blast and powdercoat.

Hey that is cool that there is a local who is leading the way.
PM me if you are ever in the Poway area and you want to see a few steps back how it was. I am hoping to have the body off the frame as soon as my new garage is built. It may be a while so that is why I am going kind of out of order. If there ever is a proper order for one of these projects. I don't know, just winging it.
I am starting to look around for a guy to do the seats. I decided to do the stock seats rather than the Recaro ones. The Recaro's are nice but my Brother-in-law is a big guy and I don't think he would fit. So I guess I am looking for a good recommendation. Do I buy a good kit and take it to a local guy to assemble or do I just take it to a quality seat reupholster guy. Anybody with any ideas I like to hear them

Ha ha. I love the little graveyard in the hole. Who would think that you would need a hazmat suit for your hobby.

Here is an update with a few photos...
What evil lurks under here... Getting this trim off must be one of the C3 restorer initiation steps. I kinda passed , luckily the windshield was already broken...
It was pretty bad but I think fixable. This is the worst rust spot on the car by far.
Back from the machine shop....Yes, I know this step is way out of order but I wanted the candy now.
Last of the poop. Like the windshield trim, another test of dexterity.
Your guess is as good as mine. Looks like an old lamp chain!!

I think that is the most "Bubbified" brake pedal switch I have ever seen! You win sir. On your wire harness for the dash, on mine, I was able to salvage it as only some various ends needed replacing. Check the wire for chew marks from the mice and other visitors. I ended up replacing everything but the dash harness as it was over 500 for a new one. Nice to see you making progress and I agree about how hot and humid its been in SD lately.
My dog went flat too!
