Default Stance versus Oil Pan

Well, I finally got my "Rescued Ragtop" out of the garage so I could actually step back and see how the lowered stance and 20" wheels look like on the road. While I know my setup is not everybody's cup of tea, I love it!
The only real issue I can see will be oil pan clearance. With that in mind, I will probably fab up a bolt on skid plate of some type for some added protection if I can't find one in the aftermarket. I've seen skid plates for newer Vettes but not for a C3. Has anybody seen anything?

Thanks, jr73. I still have around 3" clearance to the pan and with the 20" wheels, all chassis parts are higher than the rim in case of a flat, it's the speed bumps here that could high center a Jeep that will cause the most grief.

I personally think the front is a bit to low. Starting to look prolapsed. The car is now angled forward to much, with a forward sloping rocker. Raise the front by a inch or two. Solves both problems in my eyes.

I like it. I wouldn't do to a chrome bumper but a nice look for the urethane bumpered cars. There are low profile batwing oil pans available and as you state you could fab a skid plate. Learn to take speed bumps at an angle.

You are absolutely correct on the front. The front tires are 235/30 which are too low and a tad narrow. I used them for fitment and check for turning interference. They will be replaced with a taller 35 series tire soon. That and remounting the spare should take out a little of the rake.

Trust me. There is no angling some of these speed bumps. My everyday driver is a lowered Dodge Magnum on 22s and I am very selective on the parking lots I enter with that. My county has now started throwing down these "traffic calming" monsters on main roads as well. Oh well... part of the price we pay for cars that are not the norm.

I always like a well Stanced car without the added camber to make it work.

My only worry would be the suspension geometry and how it's going to effect the handling.

I'm at my limit for front camber without offset a-arm shafts or machine work on the mounting points, but the camber is just about bang on right now. The rear is lowered with longer bolts.
I have no miles on it but I'm trailering it in for the top installation and will have a complete alignment at the same time.

why not a 245/35x20 which is almost 27" tall and would give you more clearance.

Thanks Mel. That is exactly the size I'll put on. I had a pair of 255/35's on the rims but they made contact with the fender when turning. I had the 30 series tires here so I used them to get a baseline and to get the car on the ground. It definitely needs a little more sidewall on the front, and a little extra clearance for the pan can't hurt.

Just a thought on the skid plate... one of my sons bought an old police car (2004 Impala) and it had a skid plate under the engine compartment. You may be able to get one from a used car dealer that specializes in police vehicles, if you have one near your area.
