Default Racing class for the C3 corvettes

I've been trying to find info on the different classes the c3's can race in their different levels of trim and modifications. Does anyone have info or knowledge on these different classes to share?
Thanks

look to vintage racing, VSCDA/SVRA group-6, HSR group-5, my opinion the C-3 will not be competitive in SCCA...

Thanks for the response, I forgot to mention my current car is a 78 so I think the 75 year cap for historic classes will be an issue.

I think the eligibility for racing VSCDA/SVRA group 6 or HSR gr-5 is more like 1972-73, group 10 might be 1975 but thats the slicks & wings class and you will not be happy there so either buy a dedicated pre 74 race car or maybe try doing track days or an hpde event....I have a perfect entry level rolling chassis available if your serious.

I saw your 69 your selling if that's what your referring to. def a good starting point for someone wanting to go racing. I have been slowly building this car for the last 8 years and its slowly becoming less of a street car. I was just hoping to see if there were any classes it could run in if I decided in the future to go door to door I wouldn't build myself out of the class. But the more research i do the more I am finding I would be better off building a dedicated race car in the future if I want to go race. May just have to use this one for the track days and build it how I want.

What class a Corvette races in in vintage racing, is mainly determined by the year of the car, and it's engine size. Most vintage organizations use former SCCA rule books to classify cars, with cars built before 73, and conforming to the 1972 SCCA General Competition Rules, competing in one group, and newer cars falling into a different category.

SVRA, the largest vintage racing organization, puts 63-72 Corvettes built to the 72 GCR, in Group 6. Within Group 6, there are a number of classes, all competing together. Small block Corvettes compete in B Production, and big blocks and small blocks more than 30 over their original displacement, race in A Production. Most of vintage organizations have similar classes. Corvettes built after 72, and highly modified 63-72's (Greenwoods, and cars with big flares, slicks, spoilers, etc) compete in Group 10, and have to race against many purpose built race cars, such as tube frame Trans-Am cars.

A good start would be to go to one or two vintage races this summer, and talk to some Corvette racers and officials. Mid-Ohio, Indy, Watkins Glen and Road America, all have big vintage events.

To find out more, take a look at the following websites. On the SVRA site, check out the "Car Rules" section under "Competitor & Car Info", to get a better understanding of the rules and classes.

Not true, we won an SCCA Regional GT-1 race at NJMP last October, with a 69 Corvette. There was a tube frame TA Mustang in GT-1 also, that was about 10 seconds quicker per lap quicker than us, but he left on Saturday, so Sunday's feature race was all ours!

We'd only just acquired the car, and were still sorting out, so we went to use the weekend as a test session. A friend of ours from north Jersey, was there racing his 71 Corvette in GT-1 too. He regularly competes in SCCA Regionals at NJMP, as well as VRG and HRG vintage races. He's not real competitive in SCCA, but he has a good time.

For an SCCA Regional, there was a very interesting turn out of cars and drivers. Besides the TA Mustang, our race included a number of SCCA National level drivers, including Joe Aquilante of Phoenix Racing, with his Phoenix Racing TA3 winning and T1 Run-Offs Champion Corvette. We even had a Cobra kit car in our race.

There was another racer in our group, who you might be familiar with Howard, former Owens-Corning Corvette racer, Jerry Thompson was there with his AS Camaro.

Here's the 69 we were racing.

Any photos of that car? Not that I would really be a buyer but mostly curious to see it.

You could look @ NCCC for local Corvette Club racing as well, or auto cross @ the Goodyuys events.

You need to determine if you want autocross, track day, wheel to wheel, etc. once you determine that you can narrow down to NCCC, NASA, SVRA, CVRA, SCCA, Edge Addicts, etc. Each has their own rules for classes, safety, etc. and while you can make something fit to most you will give up competitiveness doing so.
