Default Steering column help

Finally the last thing on my list. Repair or replace my tilt/tel column. Its a 76.The tilt stopped tilting to the lowest position 20 yrs ago, I remember a little pin falling out at the time. Also its got the usual slop and now the turn signal doesnt return. The easiest for me would be aftermarket plug n play but its got to be tilt/tel.Next would have mine refurbished or buy one already done. Can anybody point me in the right direction on either? Thanks!

If you are keeping the car stock or NCRS go with a rebuild. A local Corvette shop or Camaro Shop should be able to rebuild it for around $500.

If you don't care about originality I would go with Flaming River or IDIDIT . They have RETROFIT Tilt / Tully that is close to the original. It's a little nicer than original and can be made an 1" or so shorter to give more room in the car.

Since the '76 Vette has the "Vega" steering wheel, do you want to keep that one or go with a different OEM wheel or aftermarket?

As stated earlier, if you want to keep your car all original, then rebuilding the factory steering column would be the way to go, or you can look for one that's been rebuilt. 1976 columns pop up on eBay from time to time.

I have a '76 but did not care for the look of the steering wheel and how close it is to the driver, so I found a used '78 column ('77 -'82 units are 2 inches shorter) and rebuilt it. There's a steep learning curve and some mods are necessary, but it's doable if you have the necessary tools, skills, and patience.

The photo above shows the length difference between the '76 Corvette steering column (top) and the '78. The shorter column makes driving the car so much more comfortable and enjoyable, IMO.
