Anyone replace the engine or dash wiring harness? Where did you get the kit? How difficult was the install? Was it a plug and play type of harness? I would like to rewire my engine compartment prior to switching to EFI, just need some advice or tips. Thanks in advance
I used Lectric Limited for my engine wiring harness. They sell other complete harness kits for our cars. I believe some of the vendors on the forum use LL for their wire kit source and will sometimes offer discounts.
Installation for the engine was not difficult. I used the AIM to review how the harness was routed as PO had replaced it with a generic harness that did not match the original.
Lectric Limited makes a really good factory replacement harness. I got mine from a vendor that is not welcome on CF, got a good price, and they were drop shipped from LL. The dash harness is a PITA, when you remove the old one, take good pictures of each step you make so you can get the new one routed in exactly like the old one. I did not, and even with the AIM as a reference, I bet I had that left dash pad in and out a dozen times. I'm still not perfectly happy, there are a couple of places that rub on bolt heads. I put a strip of leather in those spots. Not exactly per the FSM or AIM, but better than nothing.
As others have said lectric limited stock replacement harnesses. There's two that run through the engine bay, the engine harness and the forward lamp harness. Before you order then have a check, I believe they offer a 10% discount if you order the dash, engine, forward lamp, and rear lamp harnesses together.
TimAT who is the vendor you speak of? I'm having a problem with one (and will never use them again).
Engine, rear, and forward harnesses are very easy to install. Dash....not so much. As others have said, Lectric Limited harnesses, vendors frequently have them on sale.
The AC harness is separate iirc, easy enough to replace without changing the complete dash harness. Most wiring only goes bad at the terminations, not in the middle of a wire ...unless Bubba shorted something.
Having changed out several over the years I have always used Lectric Limited harnesses and never had an issue. Top quality product that is spot on as your going to find for Fit, Form, Function.
I recently purchased this C3 about 8 months ago and it came with the ac and engine harness from lectric limited, but with no instructions.. I was thinking of calling them or would you guys say just find a starting point with the harness and the engine and work my way back?

IIRC the instructions I got with mine were to use an AIM or follow the route of the harness you are replacing.
