Default Ball Joints

When you put the nut on the ball joints and line up the hole in the castle nut, is the nut supposed to be loose? When I tighten the castle nut tight it goes way past the hole for the cotter pin. Thanks

Nut should be tight. Are you sure you have the correct ball joints?
Sounds like either the tapered shaft of the ball joint is too narrow, or the hole in the spindle is too large (wallowed out?). More likely that it's the wrong size ball joint.

Forum: Any other possibilities? (I'm not really a mechanic, I just play one on tv. )

Yes, I was thinking the same thing, I had the wrong ones, they are about a 1/4 inch longer than the originals. I'm going to order correct ones from zip.

If I understand you post correctly, when the nut is snug, the hole for the cotter pin doesn't line up?

The correct way your supposed to install them is to torque the nut to 45 ft/lbs(upper) 75 ft/lbs(lower) and then continue to turn the nut until the hole does line up.

That is correct the whole doesn't line up.

Ok, so you just need to torque them to the correct amount 45 ft/lb upper joint, 75 ft/lb lower joint, and then, if needed, continue turning the nut until it lines up with the hole.

It's been a while since I replaced mine, but there were a few youtube videos of replacing them on a C3

You could have them installed as factory using rivets?

I just did mine and on every one it took a little more to get a hole to line up good enough to get the pin in after I was at the correct torque. Mostly around 10 pounds more torque did it.
