'69 427 435 Motor
Visiting from the C1 & C2 section, and have a question for you C3 guys.
I'm currently running a '67 "JE" code 427/435 motor in my '55 Nomad. I know it's worth quite a bit of money, but I really don't have an interest in selling it.
But I've recently come across a '69 "LR" motor. I'm told it's original bore with less than 40K original miles on it.
Unfortunately, it does not have the tri-power unit as the owner took it off to place it on another motor. It does have a four barrel unit on it along with the chrome valve covers.
I'm sure it needs to be gone through as it's been sitting for several years.
I tried to obtain a VIN on the block and I think I was able to get most of it. It looks to be 18S734XXX.
Pretty sure the block letters are 3963512. But it was hard to move the crap surrounding it to really get to it, so I may need to get a better look at it.
Anyway, what would be a decent price to pay for something like this?
Thanks, Pat
Otherwise its basically just another big block.
You might want to post this in the general section instead of the for sale section to get other opinions.
If its a 69 the vin should read 19S7xxxxx
IR is 68 427/435
like already said, if its a 69 partial vin should be 19S not 18S.
value wise, to the person with that cars VIN- its priceless. To everyone else its just another big block
512 blocks do seem to bring a premium though. I'm guessing because folks want them for restamps.
if it looks clean I'd be in the $2,000 ballpark on it, given the premium the 512 block brings.

Right now there is are several NOS cranks on eBay for $2k, used for half that. and if you dig hard enough I know of guys who bought NOS ZL1 cranks for $1k.
There is a set of NOS 7/16 rods for like $700. think I saw a used set of 3/8s rods for $200.
I've been watching a lot of this 427/435 stuff for awhile now (I bought a L89 back in December) and while its all listed for big money, none of it is selling. Most of the high dollar vette stuff I see listed over and over again on ebay.
If the car it originally came in still exists, the price you could get for it might buy another car.
