Default 1970 Convertible Decklid mechanism functionality

Hi,

I have a 1970 convertible and am questioning whether the decklid/rear bow release mechanism below the decklid are supposed to work independently from each other or together? When you press the right handle, is it also suppose to "activate" the left side handle as well? Or is the right handle only to release the rear bow and the left handle is only suppose to release the deck lid.
I don't have a user's manual to refer to.

When I try my mechanism and press the right handle, (picture shows it detached from the decklid), it also seems to want to activate the left handle which would release the decklid.

Are they both (rear bow and decklid) supposed to release together?
Thanks,
Denis

No,
One releases the top and the other releases the decklid. When reaching under from the driver's side the the handle on the driver's side releases my top and the other handle releases the decklid. Here is a photo from my 73 AIM I'm sure everything is the same for your car.
Hope this helps.

One handle releases the deck lid so it can be raised. Second handle releases the rear bow locks for the folding top.

The assembly instruction manual shows the installation of the hardware and the cables and rods required.

Agreed. Those two levers are not directly connected.

Mike, I really must replace the weatherstrip glue on my deck lid. It looks terrible.

Thanks everyone... much appreciated...

I'm not sure whether there is an issue with mine, as when I press the right hand lever, the left one raised as well, so in my mind, both would be activated at the same time. I will look at it again...

But thanks for the information.
