Default Side exhaust for 76

I am looking at a few options for putting side pipes on my stock 76 L48. My first question is, how come when you look at sites selling side pipes they only go up to 74 for the C3s? Does it have to do with the cat?

Has anyone had luck finding side pipes that actually mount up to the stock exhaust manifold? Something maybe like these: http://www.ebay.com/itm/161705951486

My dad actually has a set of basic block headers, so I have also considered putting them on and then trying to find some side tubes that I can then just have a shop bent pipe to connect. Interested in everyone's thoughts.

Default 76 vette

When I had my 76, I had the GM side pipe covers and exhaust installed to stock headers with no major problems. A slight modification was needed but never had any issues and the look and sound was great. All parts were bought new from Paragon.

Also removed the ugly Vega steering wheel, no offense.

thanks RVZIO. Those look good. I assume it was this kit:https://www.paragoncorvette.com/p-35...luminized.aspx

Did you go with SS or the Aluminized? Not sure the pros and cons of either. You said it had a nice rumble to it?

I saw corvette central also has a good looking kit but again it only says up to 74. I can't figure out why many of these stop at 74. Even the hooker kit stops at 74 but I see alot of people still putting them on the 76.

They will fit the 76, the reason for the listing for up to 74 only is due to the cat and the legalities of removing it.

Personally, I don't see the need for stainless exhaust pipes, or brake and fuel lines. With the amount of use and weather these cars see now, the aluminized pipes will last indefinitely, and they're a lot easier to work with.

This is easy, it's because of the catalytic converter. All cars built since 1975, have come with a converter, which is part of the Federally mandated emission equipment. Technically it's illegal to sell an exhaust system that eliminates the converter, except for "off road use only".

You can use a system that eliminates the converter (depending on your state), but it's not legal to advertise the system for catalytic equipped vehicles.

As an update I got the block hugger headers from my father. They are XSPower and appear to be SS. I really like them but have continued to read that these block huggers/shorties will burn up the motor mounts and plugs. Considering getting them ceramic coated from somewhere here in KC. Anyone have luck putting these headers on their C3 L48? Any done it without problems? My L48 does have A/C so that looks like the biggest obstacle for installment.
