Default Electric Fuel Pump

Tossed around the idea of putting electric fuel pump and was wondering what to buy. On a 350 with about 300 hp running a quadrajet what kind of flow rate and pressure would one want to look at?

I use a Carter 4070 pump I think, you only need a few psi for a quadrajet.

4-5 psi is plenty. Why electric? The engine driven pumps almost last forever. And no hassles.

Exactly. The motor stops the fuel stops, automatic safety feature. With an electric you need a sensor to tell the pump to stop if you crash. Who wants fuel continuing to pump if a line is severed. Unlikely maybe but possible just the same. Plus the best place to put the pump is in the tank or near the tank where it is not very accessible.

The only reason I was thinking electric is that when the car sits idle for a few days the fuel in the carb goes away and I have to crank quite awhile to fill the carb back up and get it to fire. With electric I'd just turn on the key and it would fill the carb and then I could crank and it would start right away. Just my thinking. Larry

In that case.....since my project was a basketcase/the fuel hoses were rotted/fuel pump was failing, I replumbed the underhood fuel lines to a "cooler" location/added a fuel pressure regulator to bring the (lifetime warranty) 10 psi electric pump (I bought an OEM electric fuel pump rather than a $50 "throw-away" pump)down to 5 psi and installed an EXTERNAL electric pump at the gas tank.......

"when the car sits idle for a few days the fuel in the carb goes away and I have to crank quite awhile to fill the carb back up and get it to fire" I added an electric pump to my 68 with NOM 454 due to the same problem- except the fuel boiled away when the engine was hot, even with an insulator plate under the carb. Now it starts a lot quicker. If you are interested in safety in a crash, install some type of relay that cuts power to the pump.

You need one of these. It wires in between the power to the fuel pump and the pump. If the oil pressure stops, so does the fuel pump.
