A/C compressor decipher #'s
There is conflicting info online and wonder if anyone can clarify? I asked about ac on forum and a fellow 73 guy sent me pics of his which is a fridgidaire. It also has a single black wire to back under hose connector which mine does not. I only have the 2 pin flat conn on front and there is some kind of nut on side which I can't see?
I know I have some 1967 corvette parts on car so maybe? Also found this connector below grn/tan flat that I wondered if was related to a/c as well as orange wire in same harness

4= April
5= 5th day
2 = 1972
Now the 041871. I hope that the 7 is a 2.
04= April
18= day
7 = 1977
1= shift 1
041821 would fit the assembly date being that the back plate was made
13 days earlier.
Your car build date should follow the code on your foil sticker.
Dom
The Y means nothing on end of date code. I see the D is Apr,
I have my build sheet and date is 7 20
The 73 compressor was a Frigidaire unit. The manufacture of compressors wasn't switch to Delco, until around 76. From the numbering on your compressor, I say it was a GM service replacement part from 1977.
I'm not really sure what's going on with the wiring. The same basic A6 axial compressor was used on all GM cars up to 76. During the 76 model year, the A6 compressor was replaced with the more efficient R4 radial one.

The last year the A6 was used in production was 1976, but Delco continued to make A6 service replacement compressors, for many years after 76.
GM stopped installing the A6 compressor on new cars, during the 76 model year, and replaced it with the R4. The R4 compressor is about half as long, and twice as round, as your A6 compressor.
