Congrats. Did you try for duntov?

I was able to Duntov my 69 a few years ago. I needed every possible point for judging so had to show it on original non repro redlines. Driving it on those was not an option.

Scoring 97% with a driver is not an easy task. You must have a very nice car.

Don't expect any $2 trophies at your local car shows...

Congrats, very impressive for a driver!

My father was at the event with his client and his client's '70. They earned Duntov.

Great job a national top flight ribbon means a lot. That's a long drive ,
Good for points!
What other pics would you like?

The driving points would put me over 100%. My goal was a 97.0% or better for the car alone, so pretty pleased.

I know how much work goes into this and I also know how much you learn about your car through this experience. Can you tell us about the judging experience you had in Texas?
This was the seventh time the car has been judged, four Charter events, two Regional events and this National event. Typically, you will see the same group of judges at Regionals and Nationals, they typically have the most experience and a lot have very well preserved C3's in their own garages.
There were 10 Judges total that looked at the car. Two each for Operations, Mechanical, Interior, Exterior and Chassis. Seven of the ten Judges had seen the car before at one of the different events that I had attended.
The majority of the points that I lose are "condition" points, which goes hand-in-hand with a driver, which is expected. My leather seats are original, but show some wear. I lose a couple of points which is fair, but I'm not going to replace the original leather.
The mechanical items/parts on the car are about 99% original, so there's very points lost there. One item is an original St. Louis installed oil filter. There's still some floating around, but the cost per point isn't worth it to me. I'd still end up with a 97.x% anyway.

You were in great company, few more C3s from the event.

My father went with this '70 (his client's car)

Based on your LSU avatar, was it Bill and Brady? If so, we talked all week, a couple of characters there. Had a great time with them.

FYI - Brady's car is a 70.

Small world, Bill is my father and Brady is like an uncle. And yes, couple of characters indeed.

Come to think of it you are absolutely right, the '72 he has is a blue coupe and the bronze is the '70. His '58 fuelie is probably my favorite of his Corvettes.

These are some fantastic photos, and just my luck, Bronze is my favorite color...
Looks a bit different in sunshine.
Thanks, thought for a second the Interior was Brown.

May I ask, isn't that some AC in the '70 Bronze?
How does that get judged ? Thanks again.
I guess I'm an idiot, thought the (wished) '70 was an LT-1.
I retract the question.

I lost zero points, the A.I.R. system was only installed on the LT-1 in 1970.

A/C gets judged in both the Operations and Mechanical sections of judging. In the Operations section the A/C must function as delivered by Chevrolet, in the Mechanical section the individual parts, part #'s, date codes, etc. are scrutinized.

Hi,
Here is the breakdown of the possible Judging points total just for the AIR system at least up thru the 1977 C3's. (Took this info from my 73 scoring sheets).
AIR Pump / Originality 11 pts. - Condition 9pts. Total 20
AIR Pump Mounting Hardware / orig. 3 pts - cond. 3 pts. Total 6
AIR Hoses & Clamps / orig. 10 pts. - cond. 10 pts. Total 20
Check Valves / original. 2pts. -cond. 2 pts. Total 4
Manifold Trees (Tubes) / orig. 4 pts. - cond. 4 pts. Total 8
Grand total possible points = 58
Every part if applicable is also checked for a correct date code.

This is a big chunk of points to loose if you don't have the AIR system on your car when it's judged. However, it is possible to do very well in judging without it, but make sure that all or most of the other items are present and in good condition. Especially during operations, make sure everything works as it should to get all your ops points. You loose 25 pts per each non- functioning item. Don't forget you'll get some bonus pts. based on mileage if you drive your car to the Judging Meet!
Hope this helps answer your question.
Jimmy
