Keep it and enjoy it... that's the only way to get your money's worth out of a '76. You will never recoup your money, hate to say it. I'm in the same boat. My '76 just happened to fall in my lap, at first I figured I'd try to flip it for a couple bucks. But then I found out it was made the same week I was born, my wife loves it, and my 4 year-old son thinks it is HIS "Turbo Race Car with Rocket Boosters", so it grew on me sentimentally. I have already come to accept the fact that if I put any money into it, I probably won't get it back. So my only option is to fix it up the way I (and my son) like it, work on it and drive it together as he grows up, maintain it and enjoy it throughout the years. One day, when he gets his license (the year 2031), I'll give it to him and he'll probably be the only senior in high school with a sweet 55 year old antique 1976 Corvette Stingray.
THAT is the only value I see in getting out of this car... and to me, the thought of that is PRICELESS.
