Seat Foam

Seat Foam
How is the foam attached to the seat frames & how difficult to change them? Thinking of upgrading the seats on my 78. My current seats do not have the large bolsters but assuming I can just change the foam & covers to the large bolster type (like the pace car). Current seats are in decent shape but would like to upgrade the look.

78 was the dividing year for the 2 style seats offered in the C3. Pace cars offered the brand new 'clam shell' style seats. Other 78's continued with the same basic design used in all previous C3's.
NONE of the parts (except possibly the seat tracks) are interchangeable. The foam in either style is simply placed in the frame and held there by the upholstery and various fasteners that gave it its shape, but, as above nothing from 1 style can be used on the other.

I replaced the seat foam and seat covers on my 78 SA with standard seats. I went to a Corvette America "how to" seminar at a corvettes at carlisle weekend. I bought $20 in special tools and went to work on it. Five years later I fell that it's a tie between the seat job and the front end rebuild for the best thing done to my vette. That includes two trips to San Diego or about 16K miles in 5 years.

If you want some seat foam on the cheap, I have clamshell seats from my 79 in the for sale section on this site
