What is this thing?
'82 CE, under the front bumper. I know it's there, but don't know exactly what it's for. I was under the car this weekend replacing the old torn rubber air deflectors and saw that this thing is bent, torn and basically beat up. But.. it looks like it's supposed to support the lower air dam with the little "finger" going behind the dam and the main part of the metal structure shaped almost like a cradle. It's not shown in any of the parts manuals or build manual, so I'm at a loss. I know it's not a tow hook... which is another subject altogether :-)

I can't see it as a tow hook. It's only stamped sheetmetal. I would think winching by that alone would rip it right off the car. If that, indeed, is what it is, I'm cutting it off and bolting a real hook in there...
