I got a generic capacitor (condensor) for points distributor for mine and swapped the lead connector so as to use the harness connector.
You can get one for a little over a buck at rock auto.

Would it matter with a after market stereo?

Doesn't seem to make much difference on my aftermarket stereo.... but then again I either play the music on my USB or occasionally a CD.
As far as the dash lights, I got tired of those bulbs popping out so I replaced them with LED lighting strips.
