Some help on the stickers on the drivers side door sill, and any paper work you have might help, but unless it was sold at a big dealership that's still around you might be out of luck. When I bought mine it came with copies of all the titles and the paper work from the original owner including their notes on when they ordered it and when they picked it up. Only thing I'm missing is the window sticker. So the big question comes.... What do you have that can offer clues to some here that might know????
Oh and welcome to the forum there's a TON of great information here. Also noting what number pace car it is might help as well. As well as going to the C3 registry and seeing if it's been registered before might be a place to start as well.

Start with where/whom you bought it from and work backwards. Another way is to check with the DMV, and see if they're able to do a VIN history check.
You can also make an inquiry here: http://www.gmmediaarchive.com/?page=1 If they can obtain info it'll cost $50.00. If they don't find anything, there is no charge. I was able to get a copy of my car's original dealer invoice.

A word about Pace Cars. All of them were assembled over approximately an eight week period beginning in March, 1978 ending in early May. Most of them were completed in April. The time built code on the trim tag will provide a date for the car. Knowing when the car was built may be of personal interest but may not help much when tracing ownership. As mentioned above, a copy of the dealer invoice will tell you where the car was shipped when it left St. Louis. Knowing the original dealer may help in tracing ownership.
The DMV is a good resource. Found old registration certificates in my map pocket for two owners from the last 15 years. Sent letters to both, asking for any history on the car. I also offered to pay a premium for any parts. That was 6 months ago. Still waiting. People pass away or loose interest, and I would imagine some owners regret selling. But what if. ?
