Rag joint in my 77 was completely worn out. I just now got the old one apart. Loosened the gear box and got everything out. Had to grind the heads off of the alignment studs to get the rag joint out. Here's my problem: I can't get the alignment studs out of the splined part that attaches to the gear box. They will turn, but will not back out, they just spin. The new alignment studs are threaded, so I assumed the old ones were too, but they will not back out. What as I missing? Could both holes be stripped?
It's been quite some time since I replaced my rag joint, but I remember removing the entire portion that attached to the gear box and installing the new lower piece with the flexible coupling attached.
Need some rag joint advice.
