Hi Barret,

whatever you buy, make sure it is a C3, and I would choose it manual.

Is it possible that doors have been changed? In a 50-year time, this is quite an option.

By the way, we are here in the 'C3 section", and nearly everybody is recommending you buy the C4...

You asked ....so I will say that when you look at the two cars, in my opinion, its an easy answer.....the 68. The beautiful styling of the C3 Corvette was completely abandoned in the C4 line.....they are as ugly as the Camaros of the same era. NO CURVES! If you can stomach the boring appearance, I guess the power and handling are better on the ZR-1, and it would take a lot of money to make the 68 have the same power. In that regard, I suspect the ZR-1 is better.

In all fairness, styling and appearance is a personal thing....everyone has a different concept of beauty. But as for power and handling....it is science.

For me, ....if someone gave me a ZR-1 I would sell it and buy another C3.

1968 chronic problems? Nothing unusual for a C3. The car you are considering has had some upgrades. For example, I can't recall a '68 of any vintage having carpeted doors.

Nice looking car.

These are very different cars. You need to ride in them. Let's just say the '68 will be a little more quirky. But I like quirky.

That is because this car is no ordinary C4. Do you even know what a ZR1 is? I love C3s, but I am not totally blinded by my alliegence to one generation that I cannot see the unique beauty in another. The C4 ZR1 is probably one if the most "out of the box" Corvettes ever built and the 93 Ruby version is probably the most beautiful of the ZR1s. I have never owned one, but I would love to add one to my garage if I could afford it.

But everyone has an opinion and some of us just don't change it because of the audience.

Whats the extent of the collision repairs on the ZR1? Cosmetic only?

What does the underside look like on the 68? Any photos?
if its a 327 car and has a 350 now, I wouldn't be hung up on what the motor is out of, other than for curiosity sake. Looks like a good driver. It'll be loud i'm sure with the side pipes.

Can you personally inspect each car? Road test them?

Do you like to work on your own stuff? Or hire a mechanic to do the work? ZR1 is all electronic, where the 68 is old school tech. Parts availability for a ZR1 I cannot comment on, but the 68 should be simpler to find re-pop stuff. Original one year 68 stuff will be harder if your looking for originality.

Highway cruiser? Local or long distance?

EFI vs carb, ie "car smell" and any significant other? My wife detests the Vette, mainly due to smell, ride and noise. My son and I love it. A S.O. may not like it when they get the "side pipe burn". Covers are available, but don't know how effective they are in preventing "the burn".

Buy both. Problem solved.
