Default DMV Locations

Being a Non US citizen I have no clue as to whether there is one DMV or multiple DMV branches in Illinois. I want to see what I can find out about my Vet as it has spent a lot of its life in that state.
Pointing me in the right direction would be awesome and ... Thanks in advance!

Each State (we have 50), runs its own department of motor vehicles, it's not a federal thing.
In Connecticut, we have about 5 branches of the DMV located throughout the State.
I'm sure that Illinois, being much bigger, would have more branches. Connecticut has a pretty good website where you can get a good amount of information, but when you try to go in person, that's when the problems rear up, as there are long lines and the employees aren't very helpful.
I would try and see if you could find anything out through their website first
Regards
Roy

cyberdriveillinois.com will point you in the right direction. Guessing you can make a few calls to get information vs. going into a location.

There are DMV locations all over the place in IL if you actually want to go into one. Depending on where you go, wait times could be quick or hours.

Due to privacy laws, most States can't/won't provide much information. They typically do not provide any names or addresses. Some States only keep records for 10 years, anything before that is deleted.

My car was from Pennsylvania. The only information the PA DMV could provide was that my car was first registered in July 1970 and the current owner was ME.

If you are searching, look for Secretary of State offices in Illinois, rather than "DMV"... that's what it's called in IL.

Illinois has not been helpful at all in title searches in recent years.

Hi raydog
Don't like waiting in any line but the web address you gave me is the closest to what I have been searching for. The car last lived in Napperville and my understanding is that they will only go back 10years ... so ... which Department would you recommend???

I fully understand Revi, there has to be privacy and we have the same here in Australia. I don't believe either country delete these records though, more like achiving them so that Police can have access when investigating whatever. (just my thoughts) Allan

Hi Vettebuyer (interesting!) ... are you a business or someone like me that would just love to have a 15 car garage
raydog gave me their web address and I'm going to try and fail like everyone else . I have done fish file searches of registration numbers when supplying an engine number at our DMR, for a fee of course. Maybe someone will take my money for a similar type of search somewhere in the US. Allan

Not a business. I considered it when I retired, but each bit of information I gathered, including everything the Secretary Of State told me, made it clear it was a bad idea.

I've owned 17 Corvettes and assisted buying cars for people for years, since my days teaching for Bloomington Gold, hence, the name.

Enjoy my friend, I can't wait till we retire so I don't have to put up with the day to day BS the world is dishing out. My little girl gives us our escape, 454 thumping down the highway with sun and breeze in our hair.
