Gilmore Museum
My wife and I happened to be on the west side of Michigan, near the Kalamazoo and decided to visit the "Gilmore Automotive Museum" this morning/afternoon. WOW! What a pleasant and unexpected treat. The museum bills itself as "the largest car museum in North America". Must admit it was first class, and then some. Seems the heir of the Upjohn Pharmaceutical Company (i.e. Chocks vitamins, Minoxodil (Rogaine), Motrin, among largest injectable antibiotics producer, etc. - but, bought by an overseas competitor) put a generous portion of his time/financials into his favorite post-retirement hobby at the encouragement of his wife. The heir, Mr. Gilmore, also owned promint car Dealerships (and, won several national races with his performance team (Indy 500 winner with AJ Foyt) in the 1970's. He was a nationally known, first class "car guy".
I would recommend it if you are a classic/vintage car enthusiast. We spent 4 hrs. but could have spent 4 days appreciating the quality and quantity of the entire car collection, ancillary collections (over a thousand hood ornaments and buildings. Almost every vehicle - except for some that were left unrestored - is somehow a concours level vehicle, and their accompanying placards have a good story.
An impressive, unexpected treat that, for me reinforced the wonderment of our incredible hobby. Well worth the trip.

Visited Gilmore a couple of years ago, magnificent place.
I found it a very comfortable place to just wander and look at exhibits. Certainly worth the trip to see the place.
