Sticky Steering Wheel

1973 original steering wheel feels tacky.
Any solution for this?
It is Oxblood Red, can I get an original replacement??

If it is the original steering wheel, it should be black, so there is dye/paint on it, most likely lacquer based.

Sticky Steering Wheel

Thanks guys for the responses. I guess I need to look closer at the wheel. In the paint shop and I am going to check progress today.

I've seen this problem on several GM cars of the era, you can clean it off and the stickiness keeps coming back. No they were not dyed SW's. I replaced my 70 SW for this reason. I think the rubber material if breaking down, going south at the molecular level.

My 73 SW was also tacky, I had great results using the Mr Clean Magic Eraser. I also used it on all my other cars to clean the day to day grime off there SW.
