Previous C3 owner now hang out C6 section. I ran across this and thought to show how GM designs get around.

It is an interesting car.
I find it weird that the seller misspells John Z DeLorean's name on one of the photos. However, it is spelled correctly in the text of the advert.

Interesting.....I remember the car, but didn't realize that it was actually a driveable prototype, as well as not either residing in the GM Heritage Center, or getting crushed 40 years ago.

Yes, very much so. I read somewhere that it was killed because GM executives didn`t want any (internal) competition for the Vette. But we can certainly see some of the C3 lines in this 1964 "prototype"!

I even see a little bit of 'Opel GT' in there, too..........

Seems like they lost some of their design talent during the interim

I, on the other hand, am a big fan of the Fiero GT.

Me too! A friend of mine had one, back in the day. I drove it a couple of times, and it was a pretty nice ride.

Wonder if he was snorting coke when he designed that.

You probably owned one and it probably was a "nice ride". I'm talking about style here. I had Pontiacs in the deLorean era, a big *** Bonneville and two GTO's. IMHO, the 67 GTO was the high-water mark for the brand at that time. Some of the Firebirds are probably next but deLorean had moved on.

No, I never owned one or even rode in one. I just like the looks of it.

I like the Goats, but I would hardly call them a design highwater. After ll, the "design" was for the Lemans, which was a medium size 2 door family car. The GTO added the 389, badging and maybe some suspention upgrades (not sure about that one) but was bacially the same car.

For the first two.... and last two years of it`s life, the "GTO" was only an option package for the Lemans. By 65, so many of the GTO options were ordered, that in 66, it got it`s own VIN, and became a separate car.
Delorean saw the Mustang coming, and begged GM to do something to compete with it, but they kept blowing it off. He finally asked to put the Bonneville engine in the Lemans, and they agreed. That was supposedly the birth of the GTO.
Pontiac was big into racing at the time, but they were more focused on the bigger framed cars... Grand Prix, Catalina, Bonneville, with the bigger 421.

goat? GOAT? I believe Pontiac sales begs to differ with you as their sales literature in 67 advertised the car as 'The Great One'! Mine was red too. Anyway, you decide.

How about you post a picture of the Fiero GT instead? That's the really good looking one.

And the GTO on the bottom? Sorry, that's an ugly car to me.

And THAT exemplifies part of what was wrong with GM back then. They'd "parts bin" a car together, like the Fiero, to test the waters. Then, if it generated some interest, and sold some units, THEN they'd devote some engineering time and money, to make it what it should have been, in the first place.....

Right leadfoot4. I read a magazine article about the Fiero GT with the V6 5 speed and they said (and many agree) "Very unfortunately just when they got it right they decided to stop making it"

OK, I am feeling guilty about hijacking this post a bit, but it is sort of billed as how "GM designs get around". i.e. the Banshee having some C3 lines.

The very first picture I posted was of the Fiero GT. Go back and look again.

The GTO and C3 and the Banshee shared a lot of the same design motifs: the kammback, the A-pillar, the B-pillar, the coke bottle 'fuselage', and even the rocker panel. If you go read the Wikipedia entry about the Fiero you can see just how significantly it was compromised.

Back to GM's shared design motifs, here ya go.
