The Cobra is gone for the winter so that will not distract me from the Vette. I have spent the last 2 years building that and it is awesome but I have to finish the Vette. As some know I have swapped in an LS3 and T56 and multiple other things but just never finished it. Went through a divorce 5 years ago and just lost interest. Well I have put it back on the ground and started a list of things to do to finish it. Really is not that much to do but I got a chance to get rolling on it. First up was a GPS speedo sensor. I could never get the Autometer speedo to read off the sender on the trans. There is a computer wire hookup so the ecm knows how fast you are going. I had it working before with the 383 and T56 but I did not have the ecm wired to it. A lot of Cobra guys are running GPS speedos and I run one on my Cobra and it works great so why not here. Small little sensor I mounted on the passenger side dash in the corner. You can barely notice it is there. Wired it all in and the speedo needle drops to zero when ign is on so it is getting signal. I have not driven it yet but see no reason why this should not work well.

Actually felt a little excited to sit in it and look to see what needs work. I have a few other cars coming in for some work but by next spring it should be driving again. Its been to long.

 

When I first began to pay attention to this forum, years back now, you are one of the guys whose posts I enjoyed reading. I guess this is the appropriate emoji.

 

WE all know how it is when life gets in the way of our having fun. I am about 3 years into my 78 restomod and I haven't lost interest, just have run low on funds or time over the past few years. Glad you are getting back in the saddle, so to speak. Let us know how much you have done and what is next on the list.

I'm trying to get up enough momentum to get started on my 75. Put it away right after I bought it started messing with boats again.This forum is good for that.

It's good to see you are back at it. I can relate to the "felt good to sit in it again" feeling. Looking forward to seeing the progress!

 

I have been off this for a few years now and some new parts and thoughts have come forward. So I will be changing out a few things over the winter. Some will probably like some will go WTF. Really don't care. These cars are never done. I have had this car since 1995. It has had probably 5 different motors in it, 3 different transmissions and I think 3 different rears in it. Countless variations of suspensions and the interior has changed many times. It keeps evolving. I am fortunate to be able to afford both the Cobra and the Vette and between them probably could have 2 new Vettes but not nearly the fun I have had building and sharing these cars with others. I have a few other projects going also so it won't be full on with the Vette but I have the bug again to finish this one and drive it again.

 

What all still needs to be done? For me half the fun is changing things so I completely understand the need to switch things up every so often. It's funny when you described the Cobra being "gone for the winter" it put me in mind of a parent with two children and one is away at camp while the parent proceeds to spoil the other child lol.

P.S. I will have to search but I have a Car & Driver magazine I believe that has a head to head comparison with the two super cars of that era, the 1969 ZL1 Corvette vs (I think)1969 Shelby Cobra down the 1/4 in a best of 3 passes it was a pretty great article.

 

Sorry, new to the forum. Did a search on your posts and can’t find your original swap of the T-56 into your Corvette.

Did you buy the swap as a kit or did you put it together yourself?

Trying to figure out fitment of the shifter location from a whole LT1 swap setup into a C3 and can’t find info.

Did it myself. I got a T56 from an 06 GTO. I used the LS1 throw out bearing setup. Heavily modified crossmember. The shifter I made a custom center plate as I have Vintage Air and am not using the stock corvette controls for the HVAC. So I made a plate and the shifter sits a little further back.
