Dessicant for winter storage
In the process of winterizing things and prepping for potential winter projects and am wondering if anyone uses a desiccant in for interior and what it may be.
My garage is unheated and uninsulated so I can get some moisture intrusion when it gets really rainy. Was working on the car yesterday and the interior felt a little humid.
Saw some silica gel desiccant packs marketed to the hunters at wal mart. Has anyone used something similar, heard rice is basically worthless.

I run a dehumidifier, basically full time. Those desicant packs are aimed at safes and ammo cans, things with small volumes and not much airflow. In the Virginia summer, I'll get a noticeable trickle from the hose on the dehumidifier. I didn't measure it in GPH, but I'd bet it would saturate a desi-pack in a day or less.

I try to just leave it 'open', but when encased in a cover I use a 15 watt light bulb. 24x7. Works the same as the 'bar' heaters used in gun safes.
To Bikespace's point, dessicant must be 'managed'. If it fully loads with moisture, effectiveness drops to zero.
You are right to be on the watch. When I bought my car it was loaded with mildew from being enclosed in a humid garage for decades.
