1972. Can't open the drivers side door from the inside or the outside.
Seems the locking mechanism won't fully release. The outside door open mechanism doesn't have any resistance either when pressing down to open, and from what I can see through the gap where the window glass slides, looks like the rod assembly has come apart hence why the outside door doesn't show any resistance.
When using the interior door open lever the rods do move, it just appears the its somehow locked but won't fully unlock from the interior or the outside using the key.
Seeing I can't get to the insides without taking the door panel off, and that isn't possible without opening the door. is there another way?
My '68 did the same.....someone with a 71+ can show you what a coat hanger needs to engage to open the door.
This is going to sound stupid, but I managed to get it open by using a screwdriver on the lock release, BUT i either broke the internal rod from the leaver or popped it out of its hole as its now floating freely and....
the door shut again and I'm back to square one, now with an internal lock **** that just moves and does nothing and the door still won't open

i went thru this, door panel has to come out, locking mech has to be degreased and rod to door handle flap has to be adjusted and install and real pain, and do the other side later or it will get stuck, lots of info here
You don't need to remove the door panel, use the picture below and a long screw driver and you should be able to get the door open. (even it it's locked).
I can certainly see reason in doing both sides. And thanks for image Mr Wilcox Corvette. I saw that before, but because my lock was gummed up with 40 years of accumulated greasy dirt had a hard time finding where that release leaver actually was when your looking through a half inch slit with only torchlight. I have the theft shields and couldn't find, so took it to my mechanic who showed me where it is. Now I can break into a corvette.
Looks like some of the lock mechanisms are wearing out I may have to get a new one.
Here is an old thread.... but the pics are gone.. Maybe Pete still has them. I'll have to dig them up again if he doesn't. When we migrated over to a maginto site we lost the pictures but I'm sure I still have them somewhere.
