Default Question on ammeters

Is the white ceramic piece on the back of the meter a resister or is it a spacer. If it is a resister I saw on another post all you need to do is check for continuity. If you do not get a signal would that mean the resister is bad or the gauge or both.

Next question to check for power coming to the gauge would just need to start the car and take ohm meter and put the leads on each of the wires at the plug to check the voltage.
Thanks for any help.

Yes, those "spacers" are resistors. I believe the single wide color stripe indicates the value but don't know those values. Yes, you can test any resistor for failure by using an ohmmeter across it connections--if it reads completely open it is fried.

Sorry but I don't have '76 schematics to suggest how to test the ammeter. Search both this forum for testing your gauge and at Willcox--you should find all the info you need.

Thanks swampeastmike, and peterbuilt for the information. I under stand you can't buy those resisters, from what I have read, so what do you do now? I have ordered a new amp meter just in case mine is fried also. Thanks again guys for the help.

Oh I see now they are not the resister. I saw on the willcox calling them insulators, I just thought they were both. I know they were different form the other gauges. Thanks so much for that information that make it a lot easer. That means my gauge is fried. Good I have a new one coming.
Thanks to all you guys for the help.
