The rear "pin" is changeable to suit the different styles, problem is it's easy to make the later "pin" as I needed to but harder to make the triangle receivers needed for the earlier ones.
There was someone else who had a set of them and also needed the early style fittings, strange thing is I think they were in Australia...

The little **** screws into the side of the pin(s) and slides in a slot that restricts how far in/out the pins go.
Spring behind everything pushes it out to engage the triangle or receiver hole.
Not a tremendously strong spring but the force isn't in that dirrection
