I took the centre console of my '77 apart and cleaned the bottom
(=Polyester bottom). It was the first time after 41 years I think...
I found a plastic bag with the words 'FACK' on it, and some money in it.
Here and there were some small pieces of isolathing material around the cables. I dont know if it was because of the vermin, but the material was under the cables and in some other places. The pieces are now in my vacuum cleaner (because they where so small).
Should there be a heat isolating material on the bottom of the centre console?
I know there is isolating material under the carpet and to the left and right side of the centre console.
Here are some pictures:
The 'Isolating' material is already removed on the pictures.
Rookie here: I have learned that ANYTHING you insulate on a Corvette will benefit you Big-Time in noise reduction/unwanted heat in the interior seating area. Whether you use the expensive stuff or the Home Depot HVAC material it will be good. A picture of my project car............
My 77 has ZERO heat in the cockpit and I have uncoated stainless steel headers....inches away from my right foot. I used Lizard Skin on the inside of the car, followed by Lowes Reflectix throughout, similar to what Doorgunner did above. But beyond that, I think even more important is the horse-shoe foam collar that sits over the bell housing, preventing heat from flowing from the engine compartment into the tunnel. I have factory Borg T-10 manual transmission and can drive all day and the shifter does not get hot. Secondly, the rubber seal around the back of the hood also prevents heat from traveling into the windshield wiper bay, and then into the cowl pillars and into the car through the lower vents and eyeball vents.
Seriously, I can drive the car in 95 summer heat, and its no hotter in the car than outside. I do not have airconditioning in my car.
