So I'm working at a long time customers home and I see some Corvette memorabilia laying around. I have not been there for many years as other techs have been there. We get to talking about Vettes and he said there was a 63 roadster in the garage. I complete the system startup and he goes and says kid, I like you let me show you this piece.
A complete 1965 fuel injection setup in a old box.
I offered 1500 cash and I could see him thinking about it and then proceeded to tell me I would be on "The List".
Oh well... my date with destiny was shot down in flames.
There's something you don't see everyday. What a beautiful piece. Glad you made an offer, or you would have regrets. Your offer sounded fair to me. Was he looking for more than 1500.? Did you at least get to see the 63 roadster.?
I don't know where I stand with the price but, Heck it would need another thousand or so to check it out and rebuild it. I did not see the 63, detached garage and he didn't go outside.
Just looking was cool enough.
I used to spend a lot of time on the C1/C2 side. I’d say the offer was about 3x too low.
I just recently had a ‘58 fuel injection rebuilt. The cost was around $2300 for the rebuild after paying $4500 for the fuel injection unit and intake, distributor and air box (which I got a GREAT deal on about 4 years ago).
Edit: Thinking about it, you were probably 4x low. lol
‘65 was the last year for fuel injection and a pretty rare piece.
Here’s a couple photos as a reference. I’ve got to admit the ‘65 is a lot better looking unit than my ‘58.
8-10K is more realistic if you low balled me that bad I would show you to the door and never let you back in
Perhaps telling him "ill put you on the list" was a kind way of saying that,
Truth is i am a horrible wheeler dealer, i just hate buying and selling anything used,
So many times ive passed rather than to make any offer when some cat says " what will you give me for it"

Since I had a 65 fuelie back in 67, your picture brings back some fond memories. Thanks for that

I haven't seen one under $5k. I would love one. Remember you need the distributor that drives it too
Yes we discussed that briefly, he has two of them but they both need to be rebuilt. The steel cable that goes from the FI unit to the distributor was in place on the FI unit. That's why I only offered 1500 for it. If I got it then cool, but the fact is there is so much more to buy and get it set up/ rebuilt. I would put that FI unit on my 68 if I bought it though!
My good buddy has a complete 64 unit...intake manifold and distributor and cable and wires...but no air cleaner and S-tube assembly. It is unrestored and been sitting in a box for almost 50 years. He has spoken to Podell about restoring it for resale. If somebody would make a reasonable offer, he would sell it. I have pictures somewhere if somebody is interested, but $1500 bargain hunters need not waste their time. These are $10k units when restored properly.
