As I continue my quest for a C3, I found an 80 that has everything I have been looking for.
Clean, black, manual, 44K, all original. Nice looking car though I have yet to see in person. Hopefully this weekend.
My question is it has the mirrored tops, factory, and I have the RPO code for that (CC1) from the build sheet. The seller says the tops are actually RPO M92, for a "smoked" mirror t top, but I can't find that RPO code anywhere to confirm that is what M92 means. I also can't find it on the build sheet with the other codes. Am I missing something?
The RPO for all glass tops was CC1. M92 is the LOF identifier code for the type of glass used in the tops themselves. The "M92" is found on the glass top itself, below the LOF logo.
M92's are not the correct top for a 1980 Corvette. The M92's were tempered glass, and only came on 81 and 82 Corvettes. 78-80 Corvettes came with M1131 tops. The M1131 tops are laminated glass, and have a blue tint to them.
Factory installed glass tops, all used glass made by LOF (Libby-Owens-Ford), while service replacement glass tops used both LOF and PPG glass.
The 78-82 glass tops can be identified as follows:
M1131 - Came on all 78 Pace Cars, and were optional on 78's built after May 78, and all 79 and 80 Corvettes. M1131's are blue tinted and can be identified by the words "Blue" and "Laminated" on the glass, as well as the M1131 code.
M92A - Optional on regular 81 and 82 Corvettes. They have a gray tint to them and say "Tempered" on them and M92A, but do not say a color.
M94A - These tops came on all 82 Collector Editions. They are tempered and are bronze tinted glass, and are marked M95A.
M95C - LOF service replacement tops, never installed on a car by the factory.
M89 - PPG service replacement tops, never installed on a car by the factory.

Nope. If it is the wrong color t-top you ain't allowed to buy it. The Corvette police will show up at your door in the middle of the night and neither you nor the car will ever be seen again!
