Default 69 Convertible Header Release

I forget what you call it exactly, the back lid that covers the soft top. There are 2 handles. One opens the lid. That works fine. I'm struggling with the other handle that releases the "headers" or pins that stick through the holes in the lid.

It seems the handle has a flap on it and can't move in the direction I believe it's supposed to move. I looked in the AIM but can't really make out the details.

Thanks for any help!

The handle is assembled wrong. The tab needs to go to the outside of the channel it is mounted to and not behind it. See attached picture.

The tab on the handle should hit the channel on the back swing to act as a stop. I've circled in red the dent it created on your channel when it was correctly installed.

Oh I think I see.... it just needs to be taken off and rotated up past the corner and reattached. Now how in the world do I get that star looking bolt off in the middle of it?

That is going to be the $64k question. I've never had my handle off the car, but it looks to be permanently mounted to the shaft. You may need to bend your handle up to be able to rotate to the correct position and bend back down.

Yes, I think you are right. I will have to see what I can do. Well thanks for the picture and explanation. It looks like I'm missing a spring too
