do you have a sight glass on the high side??? fill it until the small bubbles go away, usually around 3 cans(?). should say on a decal somewhere about how much if you were weighing it. You are certified to be working with R-12 , right?

if you are needing to charge this unit, have you looked for, leaks??? New o-rings are probably needed to start with. R-12 leaks have to be found before the unit can be charged.

Vacuum is a pretty good way to test for leaks. Assuming that you’re starting from empty, it’s a good way to test the integrity of your system.

or put dry nitrogen in to charge the system, then check pressure to see if it leaks off. That is what we did on residential A/C systems.
