I'm interested on the two 1979s below. I have some business in the midwest later this week so may try to take a look at them.
I'd appreciate any opinions.
Anyone have any suggestions about how best to find someone in the Chicago and Detroit area to inspect the cars for me?
Only advice I can give is keep checking Craig and his list, that where I found mine and I have no regrets. Don't buy the first one you see at the price it is offered. You have to look at EVERYTHING and when you think its good, look at it again. Best of luck in your search.

I have been all over CL national for the last 6-8 months trying to get a feel for what you get for how much. Saw a couple in southern FLA that grabbed my eye and there where two locally. I like the history on this one but still haven't put eyes on the prize yet so we will see. I am way open to something else because at the end of the day I am a soft top guy but finding those with chrome bumpers and a 4 speed has been a changeling.. saw one in Portland $18,500 on CL
There's not much better looking than a black '79 with Oyster interior. Keep trolling Craigslist, and you'll find just the right one eventually. My wife found hers on the Jersey Shore, a 3 1/2 hour drive away. There are sites that let you search multiple Craigslist sites simultaneously. I found my '80 searching Craigslist for this:
198* Corvet* Manua*
The * is a wildcard, so I will get all listings for 1980-89 cars that have the words Corvette, Corvettes, Corvets, Corvettte, with a manual (possibly just the owners manual). You'd be surprised how many people can sell a car they can't spell.

Thanks for the input on "sites that let you search multiple Craigslist sites"! Very helpful.
