Default T-Top Headliner ?

Just Thinking Here,,,,,,,,,,,,

6'1", and the headliners are messing up my hair. (what's left of it)

Thinking of loosing the headliners, and just a color match vinyl, on the Fiberglass.

Anyone Done this, or Thoughts ?

Thank You,

Bill

I think it might work, but why don't you just the t-tops in the storage bags and in the back when driving? Then the rest of your hair will just BLOW OUT!!!!! MY first car was a 62 Impala SS convert, I took my sister-in-law for a ride when her hair was wet, it was dry when we got back, got a big kiss on the cheek from her!!
BUT, you might just take the liners off, clean it up and just spray it with paint to match the interior, kind-of like some do the underside of the hoods?(removing the insulation and painting them with even maybe a air-brush picture?).

If you do that, you might consider flocking (not sure it that is the correct term) instead of painting. Saw it done on wheeler dealer once. Believe it was Ed China that did it. Looked good and gave it texture.

I'm always leery of permanent alterations to my car. You could vacuform a few sets of Kevlar and sell them to us here. I'll buy a pair!

My 82 t=tops are just glass on top. But, too much sun during even warmer months. Made a template of the glass area and bought some black, thin, carpet Lowes/Home Depot. Cut to the template and glued to roof. Been up there for years not and no problem. Drastically cuts heat gain.

Well, Santa didn't bring Me any Glass T-Tops.

So, I'm going to give this a Try. First step was to remove the Liners. Then drill out the rivets for the "Velcro" strips.

Stopped by my local hardware store for some 1/8" plugs.

Plan on painting flat black, then of to upholstery shop, for a thin liner.

I'll post Pictures soon.

Have a Great Day,

Bill

I was thinking about vacuforming some sort of material to the tops of my headliners (where they conform to mostly the T-top). Will be watching how this works out for you.

..........

Wait I see I've already posted here - obviously a low priority, but not forgotten.

Well, I'm going to Try it. Nothing that can't be reversed, so what do I have to loose ?

So, here is the beginning...............

I drilled out all of the rivets holding the Velcro strips.........

Then shook it like an old etch-a -sketch, to get the debris into one area...........

Added a 1/2 inch hole to spray low expanding foam, to capture all the loose parts.....

Then started painting with flat black Rust-Oleum.........

The sample is what I'll be using for the insert.

Have a Great Day,

Bill

Hey Bill don’t know if you know this so just mentioning to maybe help; you can buy black plastic covers that clip over the two aluminum blades and trim them off. I think they are for the glass tops but they will fit your tops.

I have a set of repainted fiberglass tops that I use in the summer. I just rebuilt them. Familiar with the holes and such.

Just wanted to say that I think your tops are looking good. I like your idea.

Thanks for the Idea. Just looked those up on Zip. Anyone know how they attach, looks like a single screw ?

Thanks Again,

Bill

I bought a pair of late T-tops specifically for this purpose. I figured paint would be sufficient, but I see that heat is the other issue. Fortunately the car is white, so it may not get screaming hot.

Single screw like you said, you will need to be creative fitting them to a solid top but I have no doubts you will do it if you decide to buy the covers. They are fitted to glass tops typically. Hope this helps and good luck.

Nice, real nice. Maybe even nifty. Once you said upholstery shop now I'm taking my seats there for repair.
