1973 Corvette Gas Gauge Problem
Little back round I am working on a 73 convertible the car was sitting in a barn for 8 years. Got it to my garage the gas tank was empty and rusted inside. I replaced the tank with a gas tank kit from Corvette America. The kit had a new tank, straps, boot, and a new sending unit.
After the install and 5 gallons of gas and a new battery I got the car started. Now here is the problem the dash fuel gauge goes past empty to the 9 o'clock position. If I pull the tan wire off the sending unit and turn the key on the needle only goes to full not past full.
I have the gauge cluster out all of the wires were plugged in. I hooked up a power lead and ground to a battery and here is what I got. With the power on the the gauge went down past empty around to 9 o'clock. If I take the ground wire off and move it to the stud the gauge only goes to full not past it.
I checked the ohms on the resistor and it was reading 44.2
Do I have a bad dash gauge?
