Default You just can’t help people sometimes

Beautiful day here in Virginia today so I decided to take my 72 for a ride today. Decided to ride by the local Chevy dealer just to se what’s on the lot. When I pull up I’m greeted by a guy and his son he looked to be about 13. The father proceeds to explain to his son that my car is a 72 and a half and mine must be an early one or it would have a rubber front bumper. I said no it’s a 72 and left it at that. Not wanting to embarrass him in front of his son I just walked away and started looking at Vettes on the lot.
That wasn’t good enough for him he then brings his kid over with him to me as I was licking my chops looking at a really good priced 2017 red coupe. He then proceeds to tell me it’s too bad mines a early 72 because if I had the late 72 with the rubber bumper it would be worth probably $5k more. I still politely explained to him it’s a 72 there is no 72 and a half and no 72’s regardless of production month have rubber bumpers.
He then gets on his phone and is going to prove me wrong telling his kid who by the way seemed completely disinterested that I had no idea what my car is. That’s when I snapped and told him he has no idea what he’s talking about and I’m sorry your kid had to see all this.
Good grief some people.........

I heard a guy explaining to his wife or girlfriend how the 83 was the last fiberglass Corvette they made and they are all now metal. I didn't have the heart to say anything but wanted to ask him if he ever owned an 83.

To be fair, all Corvettes made from August through December 1972 came with a urethane bumper. Doesn't make him right on price, or year, though.

It must be weird to see 2017, 2018, and 2019 Corvettes for sale, new, on the same lot. They still don't look as good as the C3s, with or without vinyl bumpers.

This is funny.. it reminds me of a trip me the wife and my daughter made to Lawrenceburg IN...

A 1976 Corvette was broke down on the side of the road so I stopped to help... the guy blew me off... He told me he has an expert on the way and didn't need help!

I got back in the truck and left.

My favorite approach was "I had a 76 Nova in high school". Other than both having SBC engines I still cannot figure out the connection he was trying to establish

I was at Autozone once, and a guy out front had a 72 that quit. I asked him if he needed help. He said he had called a tow truck to take it to Coast Corvettes. He needed a Corvette ignition expert. I said "Good luck," and left him to his adventure.

I do not claim to everything about Corvettedom, but I have read a lot and I know a little. We have done quite a few road trips in our Corvettes over the years and I have heard some amazing stories from people at restaurants, gas stations, convenience stores etc. Most of it was BS, but for some reason, a lot of people think they are experts on Corvettes. I actually enjoy these conversations and when someone says something really outrageous about a Corvette that old uncle Ernie had, I just say "really, that is interesting, I did not know that." All the while I laughing, but not out loud. In this case I would have probably told him he was wrong like you did, since it sounds like he was trying to dis your car. Of course you could have asked him for some of whatever he has been smoking.

I had my Willcox Corvette shirt on and the front tags on the truck were Willcox Tags...

I had a boat load of tools in the truck, because I went to a customers house in Vevay Indiana to help him...

The trade off for my wife was to let my her go to the Hollywood casino on the way home... (I don't think it was called that when this happened, I think they changed names). It's been probably 10 plus years since this happened but my daughter and I are having a good laugh about it tonight just remembering it.

How can you argue with the guy... he had is his expert on the way and he seemed defensive about anyone looking at, or touching his car... I could tell he was irritated...

I don't know if it was because I offered to help and he was broke... or if he was worried about someone he didn't know trying to help. You never know and I was sure that even after my introduction he didn't have a clue who I or who Willcox was... so I just blew out when he told me his expert was on the way.

Best one I heard here in Canada on the old badges part of the flag looks like a FLEUR DE LIS , Quebec flag , and some body was telling people his vette was built in Quebec.

The more you're exposed to these "experts" the easier it becomes to agree, say thank you, and walk away.

The one that always gets me is when someone starts the conversation with "You know whats wrong with your car". I just smile.
