New C3 owners needs engine identification help
Hi Guys,
It's been less than a year and I'm already back into a Corvette. I'm kind of going backwards though. C6-C4-C7 and now C3
I picked up an 80 L82 with 52k original miles from a good friend of mine. The deal was so amazing, I had to grab it. My buddy picked it up in 04 from a family member that passed.
We're pretty sure the block is not the original. The casting number is 3970010. The casting code on the passenger side of the block is MK04800. I've been unable to find any information on this code. I've searched for hours.
Does anyone have any information on this engine? If not the original, it really does not bother me as it was so cheap. I would like to try and find out if it's a 2 bolt or 4 bolt block without pulling the pan.
Bad pictures below. I just had it towed in last night (bad gas) so no good pictures yet. Paint looks nice from 10' away. It's mostly original paint and has no spiderweb cracks anywhere in the paint.
I know the top end is not original. I do have the original heads, manifold, and cam.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!
