Car will not start in neutral but put in reverse and backup lights come. Loosened neutral safety switch and moved it around until I could get the car to start in neutral but now backup lights don't come on.
Read the AIM and adjusted it like the AIM said to. Backup light comes on when in reverse but still won't start in neutral.
Think the switch is bad?
Not really a big deal but would like to get it fixed.
make a jumper wire at the switch and see if she starts. Then you'll know if your switch is bad
I'm not sure what you mean. Where would I use the jumper? I think the switch works, just not the way I think it should work.
Right now, I have it adjusted like the AIM says to do and when I move the shift lever to reverse, the backup lights come on. When I then move it to neutral, it won't start. If I loosen the screws holding the switch to the shifter and rotate the switch, I can find a spot where the car will start in neutral but the backup lights won't come on if I put it into reverse.
I'm pretty dumb when it comes to electrical things but I am learning thanks to all the help from all you members.
It will not start in neutral as long as I have the switch adjusted so the reverse lights come on in reverse. If I adjust the switch so it will start in neutral, the reverse lights will not come on when it's in reverse.
