So, the horn on my 1969 is not working.
Reason for that turned out to be pretty obious - there are no parts (contact) inside the horn button.
So, to test the horn I wire the contact to the steering column, and the horn makes some kind of sound. At least if I jiggle the cable around.
I remove the horns, and connect them directly to the battery (i.e contact to positive and horn mounting plate to neg.) - no sound at all.
So I mount the horns back in the car, and again close the circuit at the steering wheel - and it makes a little sound...??
What am I missing here??? Does the horn relay have a purpose other than being a breaker switch??
A horn draws significant current (most have 2) so the horn relay handles the current, if you tested your horn to battery and nothing it is shot and you need new as well as fixing the contact in column. There are a few parts including the insulator
Sometimes the horns will work if you give them a little time. Mine didn't work either until I used them 30 seconds to a minute straight. Then they worked after that.
