Default Horn Relay Test

I'm thinking my horn relay is not working, can someone please explain to an electrical idiot how to check mine?

Lower right is red, I'm assuming hot all the time.
Lower left is black, I'm assuming ground.
Upper left is green, I know goes to horn.

If I put power to just green wire, I get sound.

My assumption is...If I put steady power to lower right, hook up jumper from upper left to horn wire, then ground lower left, the horn should blow. Yes/No?

Thanks for any and all help

Russ

Yes you would be correct. If you just put B12 on red and touch N12 to relay you should here it click as it picks up. Then there will be 12 volts on contact to horn. Of course horn needs to be grounded

Thanks,

Horn is grounded. If I put power to just the green wire, the horn beeps. No matter how I try it, relay does not click.

Guess it's time for a new one.

Thanks again

If you have a test light or meter put B12 on red, N12 On black . Put test light lead on N12 and see if B12 on green. If not you need a new relay

The points(contacts) inside the relay are probably burned, take it apart and clean them.

henrikse,

As I said, I'm a complete idiot when it comes to electrical. I do have a test light but what is B12 and N12?

Sorry for not understanding.
