Default help with with Borg-Warner ST10 value

I just (as in yesterday) removed the M20 4-speed from my completely original 1-owner 1975 L48 coupe. 66k miles and literally babied for 43 years. Still on the original clutch that works like butter. The trans works/shifts exactly as it should.

A guy made an offer to buy my trans and ship it about 1000 miles. I have no idea what these go for.

Can someone give me a ballpark value before I ship it out? It would include the shift lever and linkage rods if that matters.

Thanks !

Why don’t you say what his offer is?
...... and is it a Muncie or a Borg Warner?
From what I’ve seen, the Muncie’s are worth more than the T-10’s.

As my thread title states, it’s a B/W unit. Specifically an M20 wide ratio unit.

I didn’t quote the offer since I was hoping to get a completely unbiased opinion.

Somewhere 750 to 1k. When in doubt, check ebay completed listings.

Could not agree more. Arguing on the interwebz about something with such low “world importance” as the value of vintage sports car parts is time not well spent. I’m sensing I have unearthed some sort of controversial or otherwise taboo subject matter and for that you have my undying apologies.

Unbiased and jaded honest,

I bought about 3 weeks ago a s t10 from a 78 pacecar,

As close as i can tell The trans is about an 8 or 9 of 10, needs seals,

but i got the bell housing also nice, stock shifter ( junk as far as im concerned about this one )

Clutch pedal assembly but its in my view at best a 4 to 6 its pitted and needs full rebuilding,

I also got the fork Z bar, mounts etc for 1050.00 delivered to my door.

A muncie M20 is the weakest of the muncie trans and least sought after, At least here anyway. I recently bought a nodular iron case and midplate complete B&W Super T 10 with a 2.64 first gear and Fairly new Hurst super shifter for $650.00 CAD. I ran the numbers, and mine came out of a 79 camaro.

Default RPO Code M20 - Super T10

RPO codes have nothing to do with "Muncies" So if it was an RPO M20 and is a ST10 it would be a 2.64 ratio unit.

New units are close to 2000 dollars, so I gather the person needs one for date code purposes. If is a working unit with no issues and just needs a rebuild, probably a good selling price is $900.00 to $1200 dollars.

Yah but what if you have a documented 66k mile working unit with no issues that doesn’t need a rebuild?

Open up the side cover and drain the oil. look at the syncros all the teeth see if they are still pointy or rounded. Has to be inspected, you never know what you're getting.

A grand for a used 4 speed is a pretty good price if you are the seller.
Sounds like youre hoping to get more?

How did you know I was Chinese?

Thankfully for the used Corvette parts buyers of the world I am merely 1/2 Chinese. So to bluntly answer the question you raise... no. I was/am not hoping to get more than a grand for my T10.

Here are all the sordid details and other pertinents as to how this saga has unfolded thus far. In another thread I started, it becomes apparent that I am replacing the eng/trans from my car. An alert forum member sent me a pm asking if my trans were for sale. He requested a price including shipping to him (about 5 states away from me) if indeed it were for sale.

I did perhaps 2 min 30 sec of online used T10 value research and replied. I told him I would do it for $1000 bux. That would include the shifter assembly and shipping. I went on to say that there would be no delay in shipping once I was paid.

He replied fairly quickly and told me he would go as high as $500 including shipping. He cited several reasons for this price. Some of those reasons even seemed viable.

At which point I started this thread to see what reality was/is. And here we are.

I am grateful that the prospective buyer did not initially comply with my outrageous demands as I have now come to realize I'd rather not ship the thing. I've since started a craigs ad and a for sale thread here for the entire drivetrain. Anyone that shows up in person with a reasonable amount of US currency can have the whole kit and caboodle. Hopefully these bits can breathe life (165 wild horsies widely spaced into 4 segments) into some other well deserving GM product.

Op fill out your profile add location. Price depends where you are. Dont think an offer of 500 is offensive, he has no proof its ok-
What are you asking for the whole pkg?

I'll get on my profile for sure.

I was not offended by his offer. Not at all. I had no clue what one of these goes for in reality therefore I started this thread so I could be educated. And to say he had no proof is not exactly true. He had as much proof as a stranger on the interweb discussing vintage car stuff can convey. I'm the stranger and I conveyed to him that the trans came out of a 66k mile never abused car and I personally could say it shifted and worked fine having recently operated it before I removed it for a Tremec 5-speed upgrade. He knew where I lived (Seattle).

My ask for the whole enchilada and a few other bits is $2500 smax. I have a fair offer on the table and assuming no one beats it by 4/23/18 off to SoCal it goes. For sale thread here:

Kie,

In my case im a bargain hunter big time, flippers hate me,
In this case i would have rather had your stuff than what i got,

Shipping always was my hurdle and i jumped, i should have looked carefully, then maybe bought some of the package i got, im very ADD OCD etc, some of my stuff drives me nuts, its condition, guys pay what i did or less and get nice hurst shifters etc

I started gauging this stuff from that one cat who rebuilds them into museum pieces,

But for me its lemonade time at this point
