Default Fusible link length

I have a 1974 Vette. I had to replace the fusible links at the solenoid. When I went out to buy the links my dogs decided to eat the old links. I know the longer the link the more resistance, so the replacement needs to be about the same length as the original, but with the original eaten i’m Not sure exactly how long it was and the replacements seem much longer than the original. Can anyone tell me the length....not gauge the link needs to be?

It's the dogs fault!
Measure the old links when they come out the other end.

I am talking about at the starter. My brother knows a lot more about cars then I do and he has a degree in electrical engineering so I just listened to what he said...... No, he didn’t know how long the wire should be.

Default As long as.......

As long as I am asking...... is it okay to solder the fusible link to the rest of the wire, or will the heat from the soldering gun melt the link wire? I solder all the other connections I make, but it seems the wires get pretty warm.
