So I decided to replace my exhaust from the manifold back. Dropped the starter to get to the collector. After putting the starter back on and connecting the harness back, I now have a buzzing noise behind the drivers seat, and the A/C fan turns on as soon as I connect the battery. Did not do this prior to dropping the starter. Any ideas what is causing this?

I think some (maybe all?) years have a ground wire on the starter - make sure you attached that wire back to a ground point, and not to an incorrect solenoid post?

Yep, connected correctly.

Have you looked to see what is buzzing? I'm guessing you have a later year (78+)? I don't know what years started putting electronics behind the seats, but I know the early years didn't have anything but wires back there.

Is it possible that you inadvertently 'fixed' a ground issue? The fan motor on 78+ is supposed to run on low speed at all times (at least with AC).

It's a 1981. The fan runs when I connect the batter, no engine running. I'm wondering if I got the connector on backwards at the temp sensor that is under the passenger side manifold.

Ok, so the connector was the issue with the fan. But the buzzing is still there. It comes from a circuit board with a silver box on top, about 2.5 inches square, in the jack compartment, and energizes a relay under the console. I can hear the relay click when the buzzing starts.

Found it. Wiper relay. So now the question is, why is it energizing when I connect the battery with no key in it?

Check a wiring diagram for your year model to see which wire is accidentally supplying 12v to the relay with the key OFF.

I got it fixed. Ended up being a connector hooked up backwards.
