Default 68 heater/ac control

before I take this apart, the right side wheel shows the red only on the bottom1/2inch when I move the dial. The red only moves about a half inch up or down from the bottom.
I am not sure what is wrong yet.Any ideas.

When I turn the fan switch on nothing happens?

if you mean the red indicator mark, the cable could be kinked but you would have to find what isnt moving freely to cause the kink
the fan issue could be multiple things starting with the fan motor and ending with the switch. Applying power directly to the motor would be a place to start.
